MCI enters South Africa with BYC Aqua purchase

FLORIDA, UNITED STATES — Business process outsourcing firm MCI has expanded its footprint to Cape Town, South Africa, with its acquisition of BPO firm BYC Aqua.
“The Cape Town based acquisition, a location requested by many MCI clients, opens the door to one of the most dynamic and growing CX BPO markets in the world, adding to MCI’s ever expanding multi-national footprint,” said Anthony Marlowe, Chief Executive Officer of MCI.
The acquisition, completed last year, aims to meet the growing demand of MCI’s English-speaking customers. South Africa boasts five million English speakers and an untapped youth unemployment rate of 50%.
Last year, the South African government allocated $30 million to develop the country’s global business services (GBS) and business process outsourcing (BPO) industries.
The deal also fortifies MCI’s services through enhancements in QA technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and human capital services in over 150 languages, including all African regional languages.
BYC Aqua offers Quality Assurance-as-a-Service (QAaaS) and artificial intelligence services to 25 clients across South Africa, Australia, and the United Kingdom.
Headquartered in Miami, Florida, MCI has over 5,000 associates in North America, South America, Europe, and Asia. It serves over 370 clients from industries including automotive, energy and utilities, financial services, government, healthcare, insurance, and more.
MCI also acquired BYC’s Byron Yeats Consulting arm as part of the deal.
Last year, MCI acquired contact center services provider OceanX.
