McKinsey launches AI tool ‘Lilli’ for employees

NEW YORK, UNITED STATES — Consulting firm McKinsey & Company recently launched its “Lilli,” a generative AI chat tool, to help its over 30,000 employees in their workloads.
Crafted by McKinsey’s ClienTech team under CTO Jacky Wright, Lilli harnesses over 100,000 documents and transcripts to provide data, insights, and expert recommendations for consulting tasks.
McKinseysSenior Partner Erik Roth described Lilli as “like asking McKinsey’s collective knowledge a question and getting an AI-driven answer.”
Beta-tested since June 2023, Lilli, named after McKinsey’s pioneer female hire Lillian Dombrowski, is gearing up for a broader rollout soon.
In its preliminary phase, Lilli has already benefited 7,000 staff, significantly trimming down research time. Roth noted, “In just the last two weeks, Lilli has answered 50,000 questions… Sixty-six percent of users are returning to it multiple times per week.”
What sets Lilli apart is its unique sidebar for saved prompts and comprehensive citation for its responses.
While Lilli’s core users are McKinsey consultants, Roth sees a wider application for it, suggesting that every organization could benefit from a Lilli variant in their operations.
