Metro Manila likely to be under GCQ by June

Malacañang is floating on the possibility to shift Metro Manila from enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) to general community quarantine (GCQ) in June, despite the still-rising number of COVID-19 cases.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque quoted the sentiments of both National Policy Against Covid-19 Chief Implementer Carlito Galvez Jr. and Interior Secretary Eduardo Año that “chances are, we will in fact be transitioning to GCQ in Metro Manila.” In a meeting held yesterday, all 17 mayors of Metro Manila unanimously approved the recommendation to place the country’s metropolis under GCQ on June 1.
The recommendation will be submitted to the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID). According to Roque, the IATF-EID would meet today to discuss the implementation of the nationwide community quarantine.
