More nurses in Cebu prefer working in the BPO industry

More nurses in Cebu are opting to work in the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry than the health sector, according to the city’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Councilor Joel Garganera.
Garganera has shared that nurses are choosing to work in several BPO companies because of higher wages and a safer working environment.
This councilor’s statement comes after Cebu City has opened 200 slots for new nurses to address the decreasing medical manpower that has caused hospitals to be overwhelmed during the COVID-19 surge.
The city’s Public Information Office (PIO) and the Office of the Vice Mayor disclosed that the newly hired nurses will receive wages ranging from P38,000 to P45,000 (approximately US$753 to US$892).
