U.S. employers offer 47% more pay for AI skills

WASHINGTON, UNITED STATES — Employers are willing to pay 47% higher salaries on average for information technology (IT) professionals possessing artificial intelligence (AI) skills, a recent study by Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Access Partnership revealed.
The research surveyed over 3,000 employees and 1,300 organizations across the United States.
Findings show strong interest from employers, with 73% prioritizing AI abilities when hiring. However, 75% report struggling to meet their AI talent needs.
Beyond IT, employers indicated willingness to pay AI skill premiums across departments like sales and marketing (43% more) and human resources (35% more).
Over 80% of employees expressed interest in developing AI abilities to advance their careers.
The research found over 90% of employers expect their organizations will use AI solutions by 2028 to automate tasks, improve workflows, enhance communications, and help employees learn new skills.
Coinciding with the study, Amazon announced the launch of “AI Ready,” a new initiative to provide free AI skills training to 2 million learners globally by 2025.
