Morocco could be India’s IT outsourcing hub for Europe, Africa

Morocco can be the hub for Indian outsourcing IT firms for Europe and Africa, according to the country’s Minister for Digital Transition and Administrative Reform Ghita Mezzour.
In an interview with the Economic Times, Mezzour said that Morocco presents an excellent opportunity for Indian IT firms due to its political stability and trade pacts with several EU and Asian states.
The Minister also disclosed that HCL Technologies, an Indian multinational IT services and consulting firm, is set to establish a presence in Morocco.
HCL signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Morocco to invest in the country’s outsourcing sector — including coding, software, and information technology. This investment will pave the way for job creation in the North African country.
“Morocco has deep internet penetration, and this is growing exponentially. The country also has an educated and skilled workforce besides having [the] advantage of a population who can speak Arabic and French besides Spanish. As French is widely spoken, this could also help Indian entrepreneurs to reach out to African countries where French is widely spoken,” Mezzour informed.
Outsourcing is one of the fastest-growing sectors in Morocco. The Moroccan Ministry of Industry recently stated that the country plans to invest $5 million in the outsourcing sector to generate 5,000 new jobs by 2026.
