Doha tops ‘World’s Most Competitive Job Market’ list
NORTH BRABANT, THE NETHERLANDS — Doha, Qatar, emerged as the world’s most competitive job market, with a LinkedIn job posting in the city attracting an average of 399 applicants within the first week.
According to a report by online CV builder Resume.io, Doha’s popularity in the job market is due to its robust economy, further stimulated by the FIFA World Cup 2022 and its offering of one of the highest untaxed salaries globally.
Dubai follows closely in second place, attracting an average of 282.9 applicants per weekly job listing, likely due to the expected decline in housing and rental prices.
In the United States (U.S.), Illinois leads with 60.6 applicants per job posting, with San Jose, California, topping U.S. cities with 107.6 applicants.
The cities of London and Leicester in the United Kingdom (UK) are neck and neck, averaging 19.7 and 19.5 applicants, respectively.
Meanwhile, Toronto and Sydney lead Canada and Australia with 65.5 and 50.6 applicants per job post, respectively.
Resume.io said a compelling cover letter could help applicants stand out in such competitive markets. Furthermore, using keywords and professionally designed resumes are essential, as recruiters spend an average of only 7.4 seconds reviewing an applicant’s resume.
Resume.io’s latest study calculated the average (mean) number of applicants a job advertisement receives within one week of being posted on LinkedIn Jobs to pinpoint the most competitive cities in the global job market.
