Mumbai police busts Delhi fake loan call center, 3 arrested

MUMBAI, INDIA — The Mumbai cyber cell has dismantled a fraudulent loan call center operating from Delhi, arresting three individuals who allegedly scammed victims across India.
Posing as representatives of Bajaj Finance and YES Bank, the accused duped a 70-year-old Mumbai senior citizen of ₹1.14 crore (US$134,532) in a year-long scheme.
How the scam operated: Impersonating reputed lenders
The accused registered under the name Maximizer Marketing (OPC) Pvt. Ltd., a fake call center offering zero-interest loans while impersonating Bajaj Finance and YES Bank.
They used forged documents with authentic-looking bank logos and seals to deceive victims, demonstrating a highly organized fraud operation.
Police investigators recovered 105 mobile phones as well as a single laptop, which connected to 132 cybercrime incidents that occurred across the entire country.
The suspects confessed to targeting victims across India, highlighting the widespread impact of the scam and the need for heightened vigilance against financial fraud.
Elderly victim’s complaint led to crackdown
The investigation began after a 70-year-old Mumbai resident reported losing ₹1.14 crore (US$ 13.3 million) over 11 months.
The cyber cell used their investigations to locate the criminal activity at Anand Vihar in Delhi, which led to the two-day operation to arrest the three main suspects.
An additional criminal investigation is underway to find more possible victims, along with suspects who might have aided the criminals.
The situation illustrates that cyber fraud threats continue to rise against defenseless groups, including elderly citizens, while demanding prompt law enforcement intervention.
