NCR mayors request two-week ECQ, says MMDA

The mayors from the National Capital Region (NCR) have requested the Philippine government to place Metro Manila under a 2-week enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) to prevent the COVID-19 Delta variant infection in the region, according to a report from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
In an interview with Teleradyo, MMDA Public Safety office Director Atty. Victor Trinidad said that the mayors submitted a resolution asking for a hard lockdown in the area due to the local transmission of the highly infectious COVID-19 variant.
Should the government agree with the ECQ, Trinidad added that the mayors requested funds for the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) and 4 million COVID-19 vaccines to be administered during the 2-week lockdown.
Metro Manila was recently placed under general community quarantine “with heightened restrictions” from Aug. 1 to 15.
