Network operator Safaricom to outsource sales workforce

NAIROBI, KENYA — Mobile network operator company Safaricom is looking to outsource its sales workforce as part of its plans to restructure, cut costs, and compete with fast-growing rivals.
Safaricom has reportedly invited firms to bid for the provision of external sales staff.
According to an article by The Standard, Safaricom is reportedly inviting firms to bid for the provision of external sales staff. Their selected outsourcing partner is set to “lead to the identification of a reputable firm(s) to carry out trade development support activities for our consumer business, financial services, and enterprise business units, and enable the achievement of set business targets.”
The Kenya-based operator has been spending billions of shillings to expand its local and regional operations. Aside from its outsourcing plans, the firm is also charged with accelerating the sale of the telco’s fiber and fixed wireless access solutions.
Moreover, Safaricom has been seeking to diversify its income from voice, short message services, cash transfers, and payments.
Last October, the firm revealed it is targeting large water utilities with smart meter solutions.
