New Jersey hospital to launch AI-powered smart beds, patient monitoring
NEW JERSEY, UNITED STATES — Valley Health System is set to equip its hospital in Paramus with the latest artificial intelligence technology and smart beds.
The 370-bed, 910,000-square-foot facility, worth $868 million, will feature in-room, AI-powered ambient monitoring to prevent falls. It will open on April 14.
Additionally, the platform utilizes sensors, computer vision, and smart lanyards to detect patient activity. It alerts staffers—who see stick-figure renderings—when the patients get out of bed and stand.
The patient rooms will also have 75-inch televisions for virtual visits, patient education, care team information, and communication with loved ones. Patients can order room service through the TV or bedside tablets.
“Today marks the culmination of a vision Valley has long had to offer our community the most technologically advanced, beautifully designed and constructed, sustainable, patient-friendly facility,” said Valley Health System CEO Audrey Meyers at a recent ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The new hospital exemplifies the trend of incorporating advanced digital solutions into healthcare facilities to enhance patient care and operational efficiency.
Another organization building tech-enhanced hospitals is the Mayo Clinic, which is constructing a $5 billion expansion in Rochester, Minnesota.
The new hospital, slated for 2030, aligns with Mayo Clinic’s vision of boosting healthcare delivery that spans virtual, inpatient, outpatient, and at-home treatment, seamlessly blending digital and physical methods.
