Nexscient acquires Flipside AI to boost physical AI data capabilities

CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES — Nexscient has acquired Flipside AI in a $6.2 million deal, expanding its outsourced artificial intelligence (AI) data engineering and annotation services for enterprise and robotics clients worldwide.
According to a report from Morningstar, the acquisition positions Nexscient to offer end-to-end AI data solutions, combining software, infrastructure, and applied intelligence into a managed-service–style platform.
Expanding outsourced AI data and annotation capabilities
Nexscient acquired 100% of Flipside AI’s shares for $6.2 million, including cash, a convertible note, and restricted common stock.
The Philippines-based Flipside AI specializes in deep annotation, meta labeling, and human-in-the-loop workflows for Physical AI datasets, supporting next-generation Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models and embodied AI systems.
“Flipside’s specialized expertise in deep annotation and meta labeling for Physical AI, combined with their proven operational infrastructure and talented global workforce, gives us an immediate competitive advantage in one of the fastest-growing segments of the AI market,” said Fred Tannous, Nexscient’s CEO, highlighting the strategic advantage of the deal.
“We look forward to delivering the high-quality, scalable dataset solutions that enterprise and robotics AI customers demand,” Tannous added.
Flipside AI has worked with Scale AI and other global clients, providing precision annotation and validation across 2D/3D vision, LiDAR, sensor fusion, and multimodal datasets.
The combined organization now delivers a comprehensive AI data platform, bridging data engineering and intelligent applications—a model akin to managed or professional AI services.
Leadership and technical integration
Anthony De Luna, founder and CEO of Flipside AI, has been appointed Chief Technology Officer and Director of Nexscient while retaining his CEO role at Flipside. De Luna brings three decades of experience in structured data systems and AI engineering.
“Joining Nexscient gives us the strategic platform, resources, and global reach to accelerate what we’ve built, delivering even greater precision, scale, and innovation to our customers,” De Luna said.
At Nexscient, he will lead the integration of high-scale data pipelines for autonomous systems, multimodal AI training, and world-model architectures for Physical AI applications.
“Anthony’s appointment as CTO represents a significant addition to Nexscient’s leadership team…His three-decade track record…reflects exactly the caliber of expertise we need to advance our vision,” Tannous emphasized.
The acquisition comes as the global AI robotics market is projected to grow from $16.1 billion in 2024 to $124.8 billion by 2030, underscoring the demand for outsourced, high-quality AI data services.
The Nexscient-Flipside combination demonstrates how managed-service models in AI—providing both data and application capabilities—are becoming central to enterprise adoption.
By integrating Flipside’s annotation and engineering expertise, Nexscient is not only expanding its technical footprint but also reinforcing the trend of outsourcing specialized AI workflows to scale innovation efficiently.
