NMMC to close down COVID-19 call center

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) will cease the operations of its dedicated COVID-19 call center and war room in Mumbai, India due to decreasing new cases in the country.
The call center and war room were created during the pandemic’s first wave t help manage beds, provide ambulances, and stay connected with patients at home isolation.
A senior civic official said that it “was useless to keep involve manpower in such units” as cases dropped sharply and daily new cases came down to single digits.
During the second waveofCOVID-19 in India, the call center made around 652,226 calls and talked over 1,369,675 minutes to take the health status of patients who were in home isolation.
They have also contacted more than 6,000 patients who recovered from COVID infection. The call center was also used to tackle issues in getting ICU beds and Ocugen at hospitals.
According to an official, people “hardly use the system” this time which is why they decided to release staff from their respective departments.
The civic body had already closed all the Covid Care centers except the Vashi exhibition.
