NTT DATA buys Brazil SAP agritech firm SPRO IT Solutions

BIELFIELD, GERMANY, and CURITIBA, BRAZIL — In a strategic move to bolster its presence in a key global market, NTT DATA Business Solutions, the SAP solutions arm of NTT DATA, has signed an agreement to acquire SPRO IT Solutions, a SAP provider for Brazil’s massive agribusiness sector.
The acquisition, pending regulatory approval, aims to combine global scale with deep regional industry expertise to drive digital transformation in one of the world’s most critical food-producing regions.
Building SAP strength in agribusiness
NTT DATA is a global technology services giant with annual revenues exceeding $30 billion and offers enterprise-level AI, cloud, and digital infrastructure solutions to most of the Fortune Global 100, backed by its parent NTT Group’s high investment in R&D.
The SAP unit of NTT DATA, NTT DATA Business Solutions, operates as a global specialist driving innovation across the entire SAP lifecycle, from advisory and implementation to managed services. With over 35 years of experience and operations in more than 30 countries, the firm has executed over 30,000 projects annually, supported by a team of more than 16,700 experts dedicated to building intelligent enterprises.
That targeted expertise is precisely what SPRO IT Solutions delivers, having established itself since 2008 as a specialized SAP Gold Partner focused exclusively on end-to-end digital transformation for the agribusiness sector.
With six proprietary solutions on the SAP Store and a dedicated innovation center, SPRO brings critical niche knowledge in operational efficiency for the agriculture sector, a sector now poised to benefit from NTT DATA’s global resources.
“This acquisition creates new opportunities for cross-selling and upselling, leveraging the strengths of both organizations,” said Ricardo Fachin, Managing Director of NTT DATA Business Solutions Brazil.
Deal adds 70 agribusiness clients
The acquisition represents a targeted consolidation within the lucrative intersection of enterprise technology and agribusiness.
“By welcoming SPRO to our organization, we are not only strengthening our SAP presence in a strategic sector, but also reaffirming our commitment to innovation and sustainable growth in the region,” said Norbert Rotter, CEO, NTT DATA Business Solutions AG.
SPRO’s entrenched position serving cooperatives, agro-industries, trading firms, and seed companies across Brazil’s primary agricultural regions provides an immediate and substantial foothold.
The financial significance of this sector underpins the deal’s logic. Agribusiness represents approximately 29.4% of Brazil’s national GDP and drives a significant portion of its exports. By acquiring SPRO, NTT DATA is not just buying a customer portfolio; it is investing directly into the digital infrastructure of a core national industry.
The addition of around 70 agribusiness clients to NTT DATA’s portfolio demonstrates a calculated effort to capture a larger share of IT spending in this high-value, technologically evolving market.
Fachin notes, “With SPRO’s expertise in SAP for key agribusiness production chains and global collaboration with other NTT DATA units, we will further enhance our ability to deliver innovative solutions and support our international expansion.”
From Brazilian farms to global markets
A core outcome of this acquisition is the fusion of global resources with niche, production-chain-specific knowledge.
SPRO is a proven software platform and services company offering a project-to-end-to-end agribusiness digital transformation, aiming to improve operational efficiency, governance, and sustainable productivity.
Their experience spans critical chains such as grain origination, animal protein, biofuels, and agricultural inputs, and drives demand for sector-specific insights that are not readily available from generic IT companies.
The integration plan is designed to leverage these unique strengths across a wider network. SPRO will join NTT DATA’s Global Centers of Excellence, facilitating knowledge exchange and the development of joint SAP solutions.
Operating independently as “SPRO, an NTT DATA Company,” the firm will leverage its existing brand credibility and certifications, such as the SAP Delivery Excellence Award, while gaining access to global collaboration and expanded R&D capabilities.
This partnership aims to accelerate innovation, create cross-selling opportunities, and enhance the ability to deliver intelligent, integrated solutions from field to consumer on an international scale.
