NTT DATA expands data center network with land purchases in 7 markets

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM — NTT DATA is ramping up its global data center expansion, announcing land acquisitions across seven markets that will support nearly one gigawatt of additional capacity.
The $30 billion global digital and IT services provider has secured sites in North America, Europe, and Asia over the past six months, reinforcing its position as the world’s third-largest data center operator.
This move is part of NTT DATA’s $10 billion investment plan through 2027 to meet surging demand for AI-ready infrastructure and hyperscale capacity.
Strategic sites to support AI-driven growth
“By bringing new capacity to high-growth regions, we’re building the foundation enterprises need to innovate, scale and lead confidently in an AI-driven economy,” said Doug Adams, CEO and President, Global Data Centers, NTT DATA.
“With the backing of our parent company, we are uniquely positioned to be able to invest and build proactively, ahead of market demand, delivering the resilient, sustainable infrastructure our clients need to succeed, while staying ahead of industry shifts.”
New market entries include:
- Milan, Italy: A 53-acre site will support 128MW of capacity.
- Tochigi, Japan: Two planned data centers totaling 100MW.
In existing markets:
- Hillsboro, Oregon: New acquisition adds 216MW, bringing total planned capacity to 354MW.
- Phoenix, Arizona: A 174-acre site in Mesa will host seven data centers with a combined 324MW, nearly doubling the region’s total capacity to 600MW.
- London, UK: New 26.3-acre site (LON2) plus ownership consolidation in existing facilities.
- Frankfurt, Germany: Fifth local facility will bring 80MW of added capacity.
- Osaka, Japan: Two more data centers planned for 36MW on an 8-acre site.
Meeting demand for digital infrastructure
As enterprises accelerate digital transformation and adopt AI at scale, the need for robust infrastructure is growing rapidly.
“Our land acquisitions are about more than growth; they’re about shaping the future of digital infrastructure on a global scale,” said Adams.
Over the past year alone, NTT DATA has opened 10 new data centers across North America, EMEA, and APAC, adding over 370MW of IT capacity.
