Number of foreign workers in PH drops for the first time since 2009

The number of foreign workers permitted to work in the Philippines dropped for the first time in 11 years last year, with the labor department issuing 106,610 alien employment permits (AEPs) to foreigners last year, down nearly a third from 158,710 in 2019.
However, the population of remote workers in the country remains elevated, as Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) employees stayed despite massive closures.
The Bureau of Immigration (BI) issued 30,986 last year, which is a whopping 60.1% decline from the previous years.
