Numera buys KBS CFO to expand its finance-as-a-service platform

- Numera acquired KBS CFO, announced Oct. 14.
- Numera is backed by Astira Capital Partners.
- Numera serves 10,000+ clients with staff in the U.S., India and the Philippines.
- Numera bought Decimal’s direct services business in May 2026.
TEXAS, UNITED STATES — Numera, an accounting and finance-as-a-service platform backed by Astira Capital Partners, has acquired KBS CFO, a firm that provides fractional CFO, bookkeeping and client advisory services to small and medium-sized businesses.
The deal follows Numera’s purchase of Decimal’s direct services business in May.
Name changes, team stays
KBS CFO is a longstanding accounting firm led by founder Robin Thieme.
Numera announced the acquisition from Plano, Texas, in a press release on Oct. 14.
“After a very extensive search, I was thrilled to meet with Numera, an organization that understands and values the boutique, high-touch solution KBS CFO provides,” said Thieme, KBS CFO’s chief executive officer and founder.
“Our name is changing, but the team remains the same,” Thieme said.
Thieme added that the move “strengthens our ability to serve clients in the present and ensure enhanced support and continuity for the future.”
A platform across three countries
Numera brings specialized accounting, tax and strategic advisory practices together under one firm.
It has hundreds of professionals across the U.S., India and the Philippines serving more than 10,000 clients nationwide.
The company says its model puts Big Four-trained senior experts on client work in days.
Numera says the model offers the responsiveness that growth-stage through middle-market private equity businesses need but rarely get from traditional firms.
Its clients include startups, SMBs, high-growth businesses and high-net-worth individuals.
Services span bookkeeping, controller functions, corporate tax compliance, financial modeling and fractional CFO leadership.
A buy-and-build strategy
Numera said the KBS CFO deal is part of its ongoing strategy to build out a national platform of accounting, tax and advisory capabilities.
In May, it acquired Decimal’s direct services business, including its team and client relationships.
“What Numera offers them is a platform equal to that commitment: more capability, more talent, and the infrastructure to grow alongside the clients they serve,” Numera CEO Sandeep Shroff said of the Decimal team at the time.
What clients should ask
For small and midsize businesses, the deal shows boutique advisors being folded into larger platforms with professionals in the U.S., India and the Philippines.
