Nvidia considers Samsung for partial AI GPU production, reports say
CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES — Nvidia, a leader in the artificial intelligence graphics processing unit (AI GPU) market, is considering outsourcing a part of its AI GPU production to Samsung Electronics.
The decision comes amidst growing demand for GPUs in AI data centers and increasingly tight supply from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company.
The possibility of Samsung becoming a secondary foundry partner for Nvidia is not ruled out, especially given the risk of relying solely on TSMC for fulfilling all its AI GPU orders.
According to Market Watch, the global GPU market is predicted to grow to approximately US$33.463 billion by 2028 from US$19.711 billion in 2021.
Nvidia was instrumental in the development of the wildly popular ChatGPT. Microsoft recently revealed that OpenAI, the organization that runs ChatGPT, initiated contact with Microsoft over five years ago to collaborate on developing an AI infrastructure using thousands of Nvidia GPUs.
