Oracle opens first cloud region in Mexico

Computer software firm Oracle is the first major cloud provider to establish a dedicated cloud region in Mexico as it launched the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) region in the state of Querétaro.
The cloud region is created to give the company’s Mexico-based customers, partners, and developers access to a wide range of cloud services with built-in security, disaster recovery, and industry-leading price performance.
Oracle Mexico Senior VP and General Manager Maribel Dos Santos explained that the OCI region will offer Querétaro residents a wide range of services — “including access to emerging technologies, to help improve the customer experience and positively impact the country’s ecosystem of innovation.”
For his part, Querétaro Governor Mauricio Kuri Gonzalez said, “The share of the technology industry in the gross domestic product of the state of Querétaro is 4.3 percent, and the opening of the new Querétaro region in our state reaffirms the momentum and interest we have in the development of this sector…”
Oracle also revealed in a press release that its Querétaro cloud region will be powered with 100% renewable energy. This is part of the company’s ongoing focus on sustainability and commitment to power all their OCI regions with renewable energy by 2025.
The new Querétaro region is Oracle’s 39th worldwide cloud region.
