KARACHI, PAKISTAN — Pakistani small and medium enterprises are converting social media profiles into active commerce channels, with fashion labels, textile producers, handicraft exporters, and technology vendors building primary retail presences on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and WhatsApp as platform-native selling displaces conventional website investment across the country’s SME sector.
Meta launched a Small Business Growth Academy in Pakistan in August 2026 and the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority partnered with Alibaba to accelerate digital adoption, formalizing platform and government support for the social commerce shift at the SME level.
Pakistani SMEs migrate commerce to social platforms across sectors
According to The Express Tribune, fashion labels including Kayseria, Sapphire, and Gul Ahmed’s Ideas brand have built substantial retail operations on social media platforms, while vendors in Karachi’s Gul Plaza market are selling decoration pieces, artificial flowers, and furniture directly through Facebook and Instagram accounts that function as their primary storefronts.
The social commerce transition extends beyond fashion retail to solar vendors, CCTV installers, confectionery producers, carpet exporters, surgical instrument manufacturers, sports goods suppliers, and leather product makers, demonstrating that platform-native selling has spread across sectors that previously relied on physical market presence or trade intermediaries.
Pakistani enterprises across those categories are choosing social media presence over website investment because platform tools reach consumer audiences directly, with engagement, order inquiry, and payment negotiation occurring within the same application environment that customers already use daily.
“A website should not be a digital post office. It should be their most active salesperson,” said Noman Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer of Si Global.
Social commerce scale creates demand for outsourced customer operations
As Pakistani SMEs accumulate social media followings and process orders through direct messaging, the volume of customer interactions including order queries, payment confirmations, delivery tracking, and complaint management is creating demand for outsourced business process outsourcing (BPO) support that can manage live commerce operations without the capital cost of full-time in-house staffing.
The operational gap between generating orders on social media and delivering consistent customer experience at scale is the same gap that virtual assistant services and outsourced customer support operations are positioned to bridge as Pakistani SME commerce volumes grow.
Pakistan’s social media commerce expansion parallels the trajectory of other South Asian markets where platform-native selling preceded formal e-commerce infrastructure, and where the operational complexity of fulfilling social media orders created the offshore outsourcing demand that grew regional BPO capacity serving both domestic and international e-commerce clients.
“Digital selling is no longer specialized,” said Kapeel Kumar, founder of Founder’s Space, describing the shift toward platform-native commerce as a fundamental evolution in how businesses reach customers.
For BPO providers and outsourcing buyers tracking Pakistan’s digital commerce market, the combination of SME social commerce adoption, government-backed training programs, and platform investment from Meta and Alibaba signals that Pakistan’s social commerce ecosystem is reaching a scale at which outsourced support services become operationally necessary.
Pakistan’s growing social commerce infrastructure also expands the domestic market for outsourced digital services, strengthening the case for BPO and virtual assistant providers who deliver social media management, customer service, and order processing support to SME clients across the region.
