Pakistani province to outsource 58 public hospitals

The province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Pakistan will outsource the operations of 58 local hospitals to private companies in an effort to enhance patient care.
The decision, led by KP’s Health Department, will relay human resources, medicines, equipment provisions, and other emergency services to third-party firms in the country.
Officials explained that the development is crucial in ensuring that health services are made available even to the “far-flung and hard-to-reach areas” of the province.
They added that outsourcing these facilities to private firms ensures equipment maintenance for hassle-free investigations, staff attendance, and the availability of medicines.
Staff training, display of standards and protocols, strict monitoring, and patients’ feedback have been incorporated as a fundamental part of reviewing the effectiveness of this collaboration
A nomination and recommendation committee chaired by the KP General Health Service Director Dr. Shaheen Afridi will work on identifying the hospitals that are going to be outsourced to private firms.
