PEZA courts IT-BPM investors for Bicol as Inspiro eyes Naga

- PEZA is pitching the Bicol Region to IT-BPM and tech manufacturing investors.
- Inspiro, with more than 12,000 workers, is assessing an expansion into Naga City.
- Inspiro operates eight sites, per the Daily Tribune.
- PEZA will open an extension office in Naga City’s new government building.
NAGA CITY, PHILIPPINES — The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) is pitching the Bicol Region to information technology-business process management (IT-BPM) and technology manufacturing investors, part of a push to spread economic activity beyond established industrial centers. IT-BPM company Inspiro is among the firms weighing an expansion into Naga City.
Site visits in Camarines Sur and Albay
PEZA director general Tereso O. Panga led site inspections and meetings with local officials in Camarines Sur and Albay to assess potential investment locations, according to the Daily Tribune. The visits were also meant to strengthen the agency’s partnerships with local governments.
Among the prospective projects is the expansion of Inspiro into Naga City. The IT-BPM company, which employs more than 12,000 workers across eight sites, joined PEZA in assessing possible locations, including the Camarines Sur Information Technology Park in Pili.
An office in city hall’s new building
Naga City is also seeking to attract more technology and business services firms. PEZA and the city government signed a usufruct agreement for office space in the local government’s new building, which will house a PEZA extension office serving registered enterprises and prospective investors in the area.
Panga said the agency intends to turn investment leads into projects that generate jobs for Bicolanos.
“Our partnership with the Naga City Government goes beyond the establishment of a PEZA extension office. Together with Mayor Robredo, we intend to actively market Naga as a competitive destination for global IT-BPM companies, supported by its skilled workforce, emerging technology parks, and attractive operating costs,” he said.
Why provinces matter to buyers
The Bicol push fits a wider shift in which the Philippine government and IT-BPM operators look past Metro Manila for talent and space. A local extension office puts PEZA services closer to registered enterprises and prospective investors in the area, and a named prospect such as Inspiro gives the pitch a reference point.
For companies buying business process outsourcing (BPO) services, a provincial site can offer lower operating costs and a separate talent pool from Manila. Buyers planning customer service operations outside the capital can ask providers about their regional footprint, and compare them on the top 40 BPO companies in the Philippines list.
