PH biz groups support Duterte’s call for passage of legislative measures

Several business groups in the Philippines showed their support for President Rodrigo Duterte’s call for the quick passage of legislative measures that will help the economy recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a telephone interview, Employers Confederation of the Philippines president Sergio Ortiz-Luis Jr. stated that they see the president’s appeal as a positive development for the amendment of the Public Services Act (PSA) and creation of the Department of Disaster Resilience (DDR).
George Barcelon, Philippine Exporters Confederation Inc. chairman, shared that his group now expects the immediate approval of the reforms made to the PSA, the Retail Trade Liberalization (RTL) Act, and the Foreign Investments Act (FIA) after Duterte’s statement.
The American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (AmCham) is also optimistic about the ratification of the amendments to the PSA, RTL, FIA, and the proposed creation of the DDR.
Other groups that are welcoming Duterte’s request include the Alyansa Agrikultura, Bankers Association of the Philippines, Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines, Foundation for Economic Freedom, and the Information Technology and Business Process Association of the Philippines.
Additionally, the Makati Business Club, Management Association of the Philippines, and Semiconductor and Electronics Industries in the Philippines Foundation Inc. also voiced their agreement with the president’s remarks.
