PH detects 14 Omicron subvariant cases in NCR, Palawan

The Department of Health (DOH) detected a total of 14 cases of the Omicron subvariant BA.2.12.1 in Metro Manila and Palawan.
According to DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, the two cases were from the capital region, while 12 were detected in Puerto Princesa.
The cases from the capital region were already fully-vaccinated and given booster shots. Currently, they are experiencing mild symptoms and have now recovered after completing home isolation. Thirty-nine of their close contacts are not exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms.
Meanwhile, 11 foreign tourists and one local tested positive for the Omicron subvariant in Puerto Princesa City. Twenty-eight of their close contacts all tested negative.
During the week of May 9-15, the DOH recorded 1,118 new COVID-19 cases and verified 16 deaths. This brings the country’s total number of cases to 3.68 million since the pandemic started in 2020.
There are currently 588 severe and critical admissions, representing 10.6% of total COVID-19 patients in hospitals.
