PH domestic submarine cable network lands in Cebu

The $150-million Philippine Domestic Submarine Cable Network (PDSCN) project reached its tenth landing site in Mactan, Cebu.
As a joint project of telecom giants Globe and Eastern Communications, as well as digital service provider InfiniVAN, the PDSCN is expected to improve the country’s mobile and broadband connectivity.
Globe Business, Enterprise Group VP for Strategic Infrastructure Investments Arlene Jallorina said, “We hope this enables the country to be Asia’s next internet hub.”
The subsea cable network is a super highway connecting all existing gateways in Cebu. According to Vice Mayor Celsi Sitoy, its landing in Mactan aligns with the city’s agenda to become a premier tourist destination in the Philippines.
The PDSCN delivers inclusive connectivity crucial to economic recovery and growth, supporting the needs of the government, businesses, consumers, and different sectors.
The project kicked off in July this year at the Subic Bay in Zambales. For the past months, the country’s longest submarine fiber cable has already landed in Lucena City, Quezon, Boac, Marinduque, Calatrava, Romblon, Placer, Masbate, Iloilo City, Bacolod City, Roxas City, Siargao, Surigao del Norte, and Palompon, Leyte.
The PDSCN’s next landing site is set on Boracay Island.
