Philippine IT-BPM sector spurs green office demand

MANILA, PHILIPPINES — The burgeoning Philippine Information Technology and Business Process Management (IT-BPM) industry is intensifying the demand for eco-friendly office spaces.
With a projected surge to 1.3 to 1.4 million direct jobs by 2028, there’s an anticipated strong demand for sustainable workspaces in the years ahead.
Speaking with ANC’s Market Edge, Colliers Philippines Director of Landlord Representation Maricris Sarino-Joson emphasized the importance of the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum certification for office spaces in the Philippines.
Endorsed by the US Green Council, this certification guarantees that a building’s every facet, from materials to operational systems, aligns with the highest green standards.
Demonstrating their commitment to sustainability, Colliers Philippines recently unveiled the Makati Commerce Tower, the first in the country to achieve the LEED Platinum 4.0 status.
Sarino-Joson observed a prevalent trend toward sustainable office environments, making them an essential requirement for contemporary landlords. This move resonates with the broader ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) goals, now a priority for many international organizations.
Despite the current market conditions that favor tenants, Sarino-Joson remains optimistic about the real estate sector. She expects a rebound in office space demand to pre-COVID-19 levels in the next four to five years, with IT-BPM companies at the forefront of this resurgence.
