Philippine IT-BPM embraces ‘work-near-home’ trend

MANILA, PHILIPPINES — The Philippine Information Technology and Business Process Management (IT-BPM) industry is transitioning from “work-from-home” to “work-near-home” arrangements. This allows employees to work remotely while locating offices closer to their homes.
According to a survey by Leechiu Property Consultants (LPC) of 27 IT-BPM firms, provincial sites have higher return-to-office rates (80%) compared to Metro Manila (75%). This is attributed to unreliable home internet access outside urban areas.
Meanwhile, IT-BPM units owned by parent companies exhibit lower return rates (30%), concentrated in Metro Manila sites near employee homes. Avoiding long commutes motivates this flexibility.
The industry is adopting hybrid work models and microsites near neighborhoods to retain talent. Companies create inviting workspaces through office upgrades and relocations to boost return rates.
Despite remote work’s viability, most companies aim to motivate office returns for collaboration and belonging. “Work near home” addresses data security and environmental concerns while offering work-life balance.
LPC’s survey revealed that this initiative exemplifies the Philippine IT-BPM industry’s commitment to innovation and flexibility in the evolving work landscape.
