PH jumps up 40 spots in GII 2021

The Philippines leaped 40 spots to 51st place in the latest Global Innovation Index (GII), joining Turkey, Vietnam, and India among the middle-income countries that are systematically catching up in innovation over the last decade.
This list comes as the United Nations’ World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) stated that the COVID-19 pandemic has helped shift innovation rankings from Europe and North America towards Asia.
WIPO added that “Beyond China, these four particularly large economies together have the potential to change the global innovation landscape for good.”
Additionally, the Philippines was among the top 30 countries in one of the index’s seven pillars: Knowledge and Technology Outputs, as it became a world leader in high-tech exports.
