PH logs highest daily tally since February

The Philippines recorded a total of 1,309 new COVID-19 cases on June 30, reaching its highest daily tally since February 25.
According to the Department of Health (DOH), the new infections brought the number of active cases to 7,871. Meanwhile, the nationwide caseload has now reached 3,704,407.
Among the different regions in the country, the National Capital Region (NCR) registered the highest number of cases in the last two weeks with 4,529. This is followed by Calabarzon with 1,589, Western Visayas with 786, Central Luzon with 649, and Central Visayas with 406.
Currently, the nationwide bed occupancy rate is at 18.6%, while the number of beds occupied was 5,497, while 24,095 were vacant.
Despite the high numbers, Malacanang spokesperson Martin Andanar announced that most areas in the Philippines will remain under the lowest coronavirus alert up to the first half of July while 37 areas “shall be placed” under the alert system’s level 2.
Andanar added that starting July 1, a new matrix will be used for alert level classifications. He explained that the government will now base its decisions “on the revised cross-tabulation of total beds utilization rate and average daily attack rate.
