Philippine trade agency showcases HIMS sector in university roadshow

CAGAYAN VALLEY, PHILIPPINES — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 2, in collaboration with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), successfully hosted a Healthcare Information and Management Services (HIMS) roadshow at Cagayan State University Andrew Campus in Tuguegarao City.
Held last November 27, the event aimed to promote HIMS as a promising sector for investment, talent development, and academic integration.
Attended by over 600 students and professors from various regional institutions, the roadshow highlighted Tuguegarao City’s emerging status as a medical tourism hub, supported by major medical centers like the Cagayan Valley Medical Center and St. Paul Hospital.
Mayor Maila Ting Que emphasized the city’s potential in the Information Technology and Business Process Management (IT-BPM) industry.
DTI Region 2 Regional Director Leah Pulido Ocampo reflected on the city’s capabilities to nurture the HIMS sector, which is rapidly expanding in revenue and job creation.
She also encouraged students to explore various career and business opportunities within HIMS.
DICT Region 2 Regional Director Pinky Tumaliuan emphasized the role of information and technology in advancing healthcare, underscoring the collaborative effort to promote the industry.
The roadshow comprised two key sessions. The HIMS Career Fair focused on workforce requirements and career prospects in HIMS, while the HIMS Industry Session delved into the global and local outlook, trends, and opportunities in the field.
This initiative marks a significant step in aligning Tuguegarao’s academic resources with emerging industry demands, fostering a future-ready workforce in the HIMS sector.
