PH will achieve GDP targets if vaccination programs ramp up – NEDA

The Philippines’ Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth target of 6.5 to 7.5% this year can be achieved if the government ramps up its COVID-19 vaccination drive by the second half of the year, according to National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Undersecretary Rosemarie Edillon.
In a webinar held last week, Edillon said that the agency’s more bullish” on achieving the country’s “GDP targets.” She noted, “We are hoping that by the second half, we will have a substantial rollout of vaccines and therefore there would be renewed confidence in the economy.”
However, under the government’s short-term plans, Edillon said the country should expect targeted lockdowns. She said as restrictions ease, they’re hoping people will continue to comply with physical distancing measures and current health protocols.
