Political staffing firm sees demand surge before U.S. election

WASHINGTON, D.C., UNITED STATES — As the U.S. presidential election approaches, Chris Jones, president of political staffing firm PoliTemps, is preparing for a significant increase in demand.
His political staffing firm is expecting to hire thousands of campaign and Capitol Hill staffers into new roles by November 6.
“We see sort of the tide coming in and out,” Jones explained. “People are going to be coming in to work in Washington, whether it’s Kamala or Trump.”
Specializing in political staffing needs
PoliTemps specializes in staffing for nonprofits, think tanks, trade associations, and law firms rather than direct government offices. The firm aims to connect organizations with staff who have ties to the political party in power or expertise in specific issues.
“If you’ve been in the business as long as I have, you have to basically look at things through clear eyes,” Jones noted, reflecting on past elections from Clinton to Biden.
Opportunities for junior political professionals
With over 25 years in operation, PoliTemps has facilitated more than 1 million hours of temporary placements. The firm focuses on junior and mid-level professionals, with 10% to 20% of roles being permanent or temp-to-perm. Its CapitolWorks division also offers executive search services.
“We provide an opportunity for junior staff to find a bridge in Washington,” said Jones.
Election cycle impact on staffing demand
This year, Jones anticipates around 5,000 individuals seeking new roles—a slight decrease from previous cycles due to fewer presidential candidates. However, the passion for making a difference remains strong.
“They’ve come here and they want to get involved and make a difference,” Jones emphasized, highlighting his own commitment as a military veteran.
A history of political staffing success
Jones founded PoliTemps after working for Gov. Ann Richards in Texas. He likens the creation of his firm to a “peanut butter and chocolate moment,” seamlessly blending politics and staffing.
“We’ve been very successful and very happy about it,” he concluded.
PoliTemps has been a key player in political staffing across multiple election cycles. The firm’s adaptability and nonpartisan approach have allowed it to thrive regardless of which party is in power. This flexibility is crucial as the political landscape continues to shift with each election cycle.
