Private-public partnership needed for economic recovery — NEDA

The government and the private sector should collaborate to help improve the Philippines’ economic recovery, productivity, and climate change response, said National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Secretary Karl Kendrick Chua.

During the recent inaugural meeting and induction ceremonies of the Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines, Chua stated that they will focus on these top priorities in his last months in office.

For the pandemic, the NEDA chief stated that the country needs to change its mindset — from pandemic to endemic —  to balance the people’s needs and protect them from both COVID and other diseases.

NEDA and the economic team released a 10-point policy change that includes metrics, vaccination, healthcare capacity, economy, and mobility, among other things.

Chua also recognized the private sector’s vital role in enhancing productivity in the country. He emphasized that productivity could be increased by strengthening human capital development, improving health and education outcomes, improving logistics, the business process, and the country’s governance.

Meanwhile, Chua’s third major priority is addressing the threat of climate change. NEDA is currently considering putting climate change adaptation and mitigation as a cornerstone of the agency’s policy framework.
