Private, public sectors generate 1.5M jobs under NERS

Around 1.5 million jobs were generated by private and public sectors in 2021 under the government’s employment recovery plan called the National Employment Recovery Strategy (NERS).
In a report, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary and NERS Task Force Chair Ramon Lopez stated that at least 600,000 jobs were created by private firms, mostly from the construction industry.
On the government’s side, programs enrolled under the NERS directly contributed to a total of 913,498 positions.
The Department of Public Workers and Highways (DPWH) came out at the top with the most number of generated employment with 691,071 under its Build Build Build program.
Meanwhile, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) contributed 162,861 jobs, followed by the DTI with 43,931.
The Department of Transportation (DOT) also contributed 11,201 new government posts, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) with 2,805, and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) with 1,629 jobs.
Lopez added that the NERS Task Force will continue its programs this year as it aims to “Build Back Better” and recover from the pandemic’s impact on the labor market.
