Public-private collab to solidify fight against cybercrime
A stronger partnership between the government and private sector is expected to further solidify measures against cybercrime attacks in the Philippines.
In an interview with Philippines News Agency, Globe Telecom Chief Privacy Officer Atty. Irish Almeida said that the collaboration, exchange of information, and “possibly even joint investigation teams or task forces, especially in connection with current scams and other fraudulent activities, could effectively prevent cybercrimes in the country.
“The NPC (National Privacy Commission), in particular, sends us scams/spam messages for investigation that we are able to block/deactivate accordingly,” said Almeda.
This move is significantly important in these times where a lot of transactions are happening online.
Asked on what areas should the public-private collaboration should focus on more, Almeda stated that it should be a combination of education and regulatory enhancements.
Private entities are also working together to strengthen their digital security. Just last week, Globe and Union Banking Corporation (Unionbank) signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) for data sharing for online banking fraud investigation.
The MOA, noted Almeda, “is an important step in our shared fight against online banking fraud.”
