PwC becomes OpenAI’s first resale partner

NEW YORK, UNITED STATES — Professional services firm PwC recently announced a groundbreaking partnership with tech giant OpenAI, becoming the first resale partner and the largest enterprise user of the ChatGPT Enterprise.
This strategic move will see PwC integrating ChatGPT Enterprise into its operations and offering it to both employees and clients.
Scaling AI capabilities across business services
The partnership will enable PwC to distribute ChatGPT Enterprise to 100,000 employees across its offices in the United States, United Kingdom, and the Middle East.
This initiative is part of PwC’s broader strategy to enhance its technological ecosystem and scale AI capabilities across its business services. The firm aims to leverage the advanced generative AI tool to improve productivity, streamline workflows, and transform business processes.
Advanced AI tools for business use
ChatGPT Enterprise, launched by OpenAI in August 2023, is designed specifically for business applications. It offers faster interactions, custom model building, enhanced analytics, and additional tools tailored to enterprise needs.
OpenAI reports that over 80% of Fortune 500 companies have adopted ChatGPT since its launch, with early users including major firms like Block, Canva, Carlyle, Estée Lauder, and Zapier.
Richard Hasslacher, OpenAI’s Global Head of Alliances and Partnerships, highlighted the partnership’s significance, stating, “PwC is the first partner that we are leaning into in this way. PwC becomes our largest customer, but they’re also our first partner who’s going to be reselling ChatGPT Enterprise.”
Integrating generative AI into workflows
PwC has been at the forefront of integrating generative AI into its operations, developing custom tools around the technology. By transitioning to ChatGPT Enterprise, PwC aims to focus on outcomes, workflow, and business process transformation rather than merely assembling APIs for employee experiences.
This move aligns with PwC’s broader push into AI, including a planned $1 billion investment over three years to expand and scale its AI capabilities.
Investing in the AI revolution
The adoption and resale of ChatGPT Enterprise will enhance PwC’s service offerings in audit, tax, and consulting, providing clients with advanced AI solutions.
Bret Greenstein, PwC’s partner and Generative AI Leader, noted the high engagement rate with PwC’s internal AI training tools, suggesting strong internal adoption and the potential for significant client impact.
While financial details of the agreement have not been disclosed, estimates suggest a substantial cost, potentially around $60 per seat per month. This indicates a significant investment by PwC, reflecting its commitment to leading the AI revolution in professional services.
A leader in artificial intelligence technology, OpenAI recently unveiled GPT-4o (“o” for “omni”), a new iteration of its GPT-4 language model that powers the popular ChatGPT. However, the firm is also facing high operational costs due to the computing demands of its generative AI products, leading it to look to enterprise sales and premium subscriptions as revenue streams.
This partnership with PwC marks a significant step in that direction, promising to reshape the landscape of enterprise AI.
