Philippines, IBPAP to launch quality council for IT-BPM standards
TAGUIG, PHILIPPINES — The IT & Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) will establish a quality council to enforce performance benchmarks for the industry.
The move, backed by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), aims to align services with global excellence while promoting the Philippine Quality Awards (PQA) as a national standard.
“This represents more than just a formal agreement, it is an affirmation of our commitment to strengthening partnerships that drive national progress,” Trade Secretary, Cristina Roque said.
Strengthening industry standards to boost global competitiveness
The IBPAP’s upcoming quality council seeks to standardize training, certification, and operational excellence across the IT-business process management (IT-BPM) sector.
President Jack Madrid emphasized that since the industry serves multiple sectors, maintaining high standards is critical for sustaining the Philippines’ reputation as a global outsourcing hub.
The initiative, part of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the DTI, includes promoting the PQA, the country’s top organizational performance recognition.
Roque affirmed support, calling the IT-BPM sector a pillar of economic resilience that generates significant employment.
“The DTI is committed to supporting the IBPAP as best as we can. The information technology and business process management sector has been a pillar of economic resilience and a powerful engine of job creation in the Philippines,” Roque said.
DTI’s dual focus: BPO growth and consumer safety
While backing the BPO sector’s quality push, the DTI is also tightening oversight on construction materials to protect consumers.
Roque warned against substandard steel, stressing that lax standards could endanger lives during disasters.
The department will enforce stricter monitoring, including e-commerce platforms, to ensure compliance.
This dual approach underscores the government’s delicate balance between promoting high-value industries such as BPOs and ensuring public welfare.
