The Philippine government is expecting to maintain the latest decline of unemployed workers and boost employment in the country by further relaxing quarantine restrictions in Metro Manila and other parts of the country.
According to the Philippine Statistics Authority’s (PSA) latest Labor Force Survey (LFS), the number of unemployed workers in the country decreased to 3 million in July compared to the same period last year.
In a virtual briefing, presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said that this trend “happened when quarantine restrictions were removed.”
The government hopes to continue to sustain the unemployment decline by replacing the existing community quarantine classification with granular lockdowns.
Roque added that this move “is part of our strategy to keep the economy open to minimize the number of people who are hungry.”
