Romania’s IT&C industry hits $21.5Bn turnover
BUCHAREST, ROMANIA — The Romanian information technology and communication (IT&C) industry has achieved significant growth, reaching a turnover of €20 billion ($21.5 billion) in 2022, according to a new study presented by the Employers’ Association of the Software and Services Industry (ANIS).
The findings were unveiled at the International Summit & Gala Award 2024, highlighting the sector’s substantial contribution to the national economy.
Industry growth and economic impact
The report, titled “Software and ITC Services in Romania,” details the IT sector’s strong influence on Romania‘s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which stood at 14.2% in 2021.
This includes a direct impact of 7.99% on the GDP. The study emphasizes that custom software development activities are the predominant drivers, followed by wireless telecommunications and IT consulting.
Corina Vasile, executive director of ANIS, commented on the industry’s international standing, stating, “It’s hard to sell consultancy from Romania on the international, developed markets. Our predecessors did a good job at building the country’s IT brand.”
Recognizing excellence in IT&C
The summit also served as a platform to celebrate outstanding achievements within the IT industry. A total of 10 awards were distributed across various categories out of 85 organizations vying for the honors. Notable winners included:
- Startup of the Year: Bonapp, recognized for its innovative approach to combating food waste
- Education Program of the Year: “A.E.R – the Alliance for Remedial Education,” a collaborative project by Brio.ro, Kinderpedia, LIVRESQ, and Magic School.
- Software Product of the Year: Adobe Romania’s “Adobe Express” clinched this award for its impactful software solution.
- Innovation of the Year: .lumen’s “Spatial Navigation A.I. through Glasses for the Blind” was highlighted for its groundbreaking technology.
- R&D Project of the Year: .lumen again took the spotlight with its “Spatial Navigation AI through glasses for the blind.”
- ESG Program of the Year: Societe Generale Global Solution Center was recognized for its “ESG Practice,” contributing to environmental, social, and governance initiatives.
- Outsourcing Project of the Year: Qualysoft’s “Indonesia Digital Tax Administration System” was celebrated for its complexity and impact.
- Company of the Year: AROBS Group was honored for its excellence and leadership in the IT sector.
Additional accolades included the Member of the Year award, which went to SeedBlink for its active participation in ANIS activities, and the Best Personal Contribution award, which went to Madalin Staniu of Black Bullet for his efforts in advancing the association’s goals.
