SA boosts digital skills to fight youth unemployment

South Africa’s Presidential Employment Stimulus strategy’s next phase will focus on training the digital skills and capacity of the country’s youth, said President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Ramaphosa added that the government is ready to give financial support to youth-owned enterprises to expand and provide job opportunities.
In his weekly newsletter, the South African President stated that they “cannot afford endless delays” in addressing the unemployment crisis in the country just because of “bureaucratic red-tape, outdated recruitment processes, lack of capacity and planning, or programs that are short-lived or unsustainable.”
Ramaphosa is expecting an increase in participants in the second phase of the stimulus as they have allocated nearly R1 billion (US$68.3 million) in funding for the Presidential Youth Employment Intervention (PYEI).
According to the Department of Employment and Labour, the SA youth can access the stimulus opportunities during phase two by registering their profile on the SAYouth.mobi network.
