Sagility to transform old Philippine airport into call center

BOHOL, PHILIPPINES — The old Tagbilaran City Airport in Bohol, Philippines, will soon become a call center and information technology (IT) hub, marking a significant milestone in the province’s economic development.
Sagility takes over the old airport
Bohol Governor Aris Aumentado announced that Sagility, a U.S.-based healthcare business process outsourcing (BPO) firm, has taken over the old airport. This transformation is part of a broader initiative to develop the area into the Bohol Business Park.
“Bohol is so blessed to have enticed major investors, who are fully convinced of our potential as an emerging IT destination and are ready to take advantage of the great opportunities that are waiting for them here,” said Aumentado during the groundbreaking ceremony last May 15.
A new era for Bohol’s IT sector
The governor emphasized the importance of this development for the local economy, highlighting the potential for job creation and economic growth.
“This groundbreaking ceremony is something that we can truly be proud of as this is a strong manifestation that we have what it takes to lead in the digital sector, and we have partners such as Sagility and Innercore to help us lead into that path,” he added.
The Bohol Business Park will utilize the two-kilometer runway that has been idle since the completion of the Bohol Panglao International Airport in 2017. This new development aims to repurpose the old airport into a thriving IT hub, accommodating various BPO firms and commercial centers.
Job creation and local employment
Ma. Vilma Yorong, Head of the Bohol Employment and Placement Office, stated that the BPO operations at the new Sagility Bohol branch would employ around 3,000 individuals.
“More jobs and opportunities for the Boholanos,” she said, noting that at least 60% of the labor force for the construction would be locally sourced.
Governor Aumentado expressed his vision for the project, hoping it would provide better job opportunities for locals.
“With this project, I truly hope that we can now offer a better quality of life and a brighter future ahead to every individual and family here in our dear Home, a place called Bohol, the ‘Head of the Philippine Islands,’” he said.
The transformation of the old Tagbilaran airport into a call center and IT hub is expected to significantly boost the local economy, providing much-needed employment and fostering technological growth in the region.
