Senate reviews gov’t job generation programs

Philippine senators have started a comprehensive review of the implementation of the government’s employment generation and industrialization programs. The review seeks to determine if the investments that the government plans to make in the next five to ten years are in line with the constitutional mandate to promote full employment and industrialization.
Specifically, Senator Juan Edgardo Angara, chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, said the review will look at initiatives covering information technology and business process outsourcing, tourism, creative industries, trade, manufacturing, agriculture and fisheries, logistics, shipping, research and development, and other productive sectors.
The Department of Information and Communications Technology’s initiatives in promoting ICT literacy and supporting ICT industry and countryside development will be reviewed, Angara said.
