SGS strengthens North American HSE through H2Safety acquisition

ALBERTA, CANADA — Swiss giant SGS, a testing, inspection, and certification (TIC) company, has acquired Calgary-based H2Safety Services Inc., a specialist in emergency response management and Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) services across North America. Specific terms of the deal remain confidential.

The merger strengthens SGS’s footprint in emergency preparedness, safety training, and regulatory compliance in industrial sectors including oil and gas, mining, utilities, renewables, and government.

Tech-driven safety with H2CommandCentre

One of H2Safety’s offerings is H2CommandCentre, a proprietary emergency management software platform with over 15,000 users. The system supports real-time incident management by activating response teams, mapping hazard zones, identifying critical stakeholders, and streamlining communications during emergencies. It plays a crucial role in business continuity and safety assurance across industries.

SGS views the integration of H2CommandCentre as a leap in its digital transformation goals under its Strategy 27 roadmap.

“Operational integrity is at the core of SGS’s corporate culture, since our customers entrust us with their quality assurance and operational fluidity needs in a wide range of industrial environments,” said Patrick Beck, Head of Industrial Services at SGS North America.

“Whether it’s delivering inspections to monitor the integrity of oil pipelines or deterring wildlife from landing in hazardous substances, HSE is at the core of what we do. We also have a strong HSE record within our own operations, so we really walk the talk when it comes to protecting assets, employees and the environment.”

Supporting ESG and North American growth goals

With a workforce of over 99,500 professionals and operations in 115 countries, SGS is accelerating efforts to double North American sales by 2027.

The acquisition supports key growth drivers, including ESG regulation, digital innovation, and rising expectations around community and environmental engagement.

H2Safety’s expertise complements SGS’s own high standards in HSE, allowing the combined entity to offer end-to-end safety, compliance, and emergency response services tailored to complex industrial environments.

Founded in 2004, H2Safety has been recognized for public consultation, indigenous engagement, and government relations in emergency planning.

“Our approach to safeguarding critical infrastructure, communities, employees and natural environments is rooted in building authentic relationships and addressing community concerns transparently,” said James Harasen, CEO and Chairman of H2Safety.
