Meghalaya’s second Shillong tech park fills up days after launch

- Shillong Technology Park’s second phase neared full occupancy two days after opening.
- Alorica is set to occupy two floors in the new building.
- Both phases are projected to create 4,000 to 5,000 direct jobs.
- Meghalaya is planning a third technology park in Shillong.
SHILLONG, INDIA — The second phase of the Shillong Technology Park is nearing full occupancy just two days after its inauguration, as business process management (BPM) and AI companies commit to space in the northeast Indian state of Meghalaya.
The first phase is already fully occupied and houses nine companies, and the state government is now working toward a third technology park in Shillong.
BPM and AI firms take space in Tech Park II
StaffFlex LLP, a Shillong-based company providing BPM services for U.K. clients, has signed an agreement to take space in Tech Park II, according to The Shillong Times.
Another agreement was signed with Shamrock AI, a Shillong-based multinational, while U.S.-based Alorica is set to occupy two floors in the new building.
First-phase tenants include 24/7 Customer, now known as [24]7.ai, along with HDFC Bank, iMerit Technology Services and Pursuit Software Development.
Tech Park II will also host a Centre of Excellence in artificial intelligence (AI), supported under the IndiaAI Mission, with the state earmarking 10,000 square feet for the facility and signing a memorandum of understanding with NASSCOM.
Parks target 4,000 to 5,000 direct jobs
Phases I and II are projected to generate between 4,000 and 5,000 direct jobs and around 15,000 indirect jobs.
The parks are also expected to draw back IT professionals and entrepreneurs from Meghalaya who are working outside the state.
A technology park in Tura is being developed as well, with facilities equipped with redundant power supply and internet connectivity.
The state says the digital economy will play a major role in reaching its “Mission 10” target of a $10 billion gross state domestic product by 2030.
For buyers looking beyond India’s largest metros for business process outsourcing (BPO) and global capability center (GCC) capacity, Shillong is filling new office space quickly with BPM, AI and customer experience tenants.
The test for buyers comparing the top BPO companies worldwide is whether Meghalaya can supply enough trained talent as the third park moves ahead.
