Siemens seals $5.1Bn Dotmatics life sciences deal

MUNICH, GERMANY — Siemens AG has announced its acquisition of Boston-based Dotmatics for $5.1 billion, marking a push into the life sciences sector.
Strategic expansion into life sciences
The deal, facilitated by Insight Partners, aims to integrate Dotmatics’ advanced research and development (R&D) scientific software into Siemens’ life sciences portfolio.
Dotmatics, renowned for its enterprise R&D platform and applications, is expected to enhance Siemens’ capabilities in artificial intelligence (AI)-powered product lifecycle management (PLM).
The merger aligns with Siemens’ ONE Tech Company program, designed to enhance customer innovation and integrate cutting-edge technologies across various industries.

Financial impact and future synergies
The acquisition is financially backed through the sale of shares in Siemens Healthineers and other listed entities.
“The acquisition of Dotmatics drives strong revenue synergies and is highly profitable and cash generative,” said Siemens CFO, Ralf Thomas.
Siemens projects medium-term increases of approximately $100 million annually, with long-term expectations exceeding $500 million.

Siemens AG is a global technology company headquartered in Berlin and Munich. It focuses on industry, infrastructure, mobility, and healthcare solutions.
In fiscal year 2024, Siemens reported €75.9 billion (US$84.1 billion) in revenue and employed approximately 312,000 people worldwide. The company’s acquisition of Dotmatics follows its recent $10.6 billion purchase of engineering software firm Altair.
Meanwhile, Dotmatics provides cloud-based R&D solutions that connect science, data, and decision-making processes for life sciences.
Its platform includes popular applications such as GraphPad Prism, SnapGene, and Geneious Prime, used by over 2 million scientists and 14,000 customers worldwide. The company operates in more than 180 countries and employs over 800 people across 14 offices globally.
