Six-week MECQ could slow down new COVID-19 cases in NCR

The Department of Health has stated that the imposed six-week Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) partnered with an enhanced COVID-19 response could lead to a lower number of active cases in Metro Manila by the end of September.
Using a modeling tool, the DOH has laid out several scenarios and their projected active cases all leading to a downturn of new infections by September 30.
However, the health agency added that their forecast only shows the best-case scenario in the National Capital Region (NCR) when there is an “improvement in the vaccination, shortening the interval between symptom onset and isolation to at most six days, and compliance with the minimum public health standards (MPHS).”
The country’s capital city was placed under the strictest lockdown classification called Enhanced Community Quarantine last August 6 to 20 and was downgraded to MECQ along with the province of Laguna last August 21.
