SLASSCOM boasts efforts to spur Sri Lanka IT-BPM growth

COLOMBO, SRI LANKA — The Sri Lanka Association of Software Services Companies (SLASSCOM) is spearheading a multifaceted strategy to drive innovation and growth within the nation’s rapidly growing IT/BPM sector.
SLASSCOM Chairman Jehan Perinpanayagam and Former Chairman Ashique Ali offered insights into the organization’s strategic vision and plans for the future.
According to Perinpanayagam and Ali, talent-building is key to SLASSCOM’s mission. The organization has led initiatives like the “Tech Kids” program to reach over 12,000 students and the “Future Careers Bridge” program, which boasts over 33,000 enrollees.
The SLASSCOM Academy also upskilled IT professionals through emerging tech courses.
Additionally, SLASSCOM is elevating Sri Lanka’s status as an IT/BPM hub by linking local innovators with the Global Innovation Awards. The association’s Global Trade Forum also aims to attract foreign investment and partnerships.
On the policy front, SLASSCOM played a key role in shaping regulations favorable to the IT/BPM industry. Ongoing efforts also look to ease visa access for foreign tech talent and liberalize trade agreements.
With collaboration across key stakeholders, SLASSCOM has aligned itself with national strategies for the digital economy, eyeing a target for the industry’s GDP contribution to rise to 15% by 2030.
