SLASSCOM encourages members to adopt ESG initiatives
The Sri Lanka Association of Software Services Companies (SLASSCOM) is urging its member companies to adopt Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives to help boost their business value.
According to the IT-BPM industry body, this is in response to global trends where large enterprises are demanding that vendors showcase performance against ESG goals in order to pitch for business.
One example of a SLASSCOM member company that has pioneered ESG adoption in the Sri Lankan IT industry is Virtusa Corporation.
Virtusa successfully incorporated its ESG strategy with its global business strategy to demonstrate its purposefulness about sustainability and strong ethical standards in operating responsibly in all their activities. They follow the 10 UN Global Compact Principles and support UN Sustainable Development Goals through their ESG program.
Virtusa Senior VP Denver De Zylva revealed that they have invested in the education, training, and resources to implement the company’s ESG program. Accordingly, the firm has shown audited reductions in their GHG emissions per employee by 78% and reduced energy consumption by 46% over 7 year period.
A spokesperson at SLASSCOM stated, “We are proud of Virtusa’s achievement, where they have applied their time, talent, and technology to make a meaningful impact in the markets they [operate] in, evolving the nature of their work over time to meet the most urgent needs of society.”
