Sri Lanka, Bangladesh strengthen IT-BPO partnership to boost exports
DHAKA, BANGLADESH — Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are deepening ties in IT and business process outsourcing (BPO) to expand service sector exports and industry partnerships.
The discussions, led by Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner and Bangladesh’s outsourcing association, highlighted joint ventures, skills exchange, and mutual participation in major tech summits.
Strengthening IT-BPO ties for economic growth
Sri Lanka and Bangladesh agree that the IT and BPO sectors help power their economies. Sri Lankan High Commissioner Dharmapala Weerakkody highlighted opportunities to team up in BPO, share information, and invest in a strong local workforce to strengthen their position in the world market.
Bangladesh, with Tanvir Ibrahim representing the Bangladesh Association of Contact Center Outsourcing (BACCO) President, introduced its expanding list of IT-BPO capabilities. He was eager to team up with Sri Lankan enterprises, pointing out that IT exports helped generate $1.4 billion in revenue for Bangladesh that year.
Both sides agreed to facilitate a virtual meeting between BACCO, the Sri Lanka Association for Software and Services Companies (SLASSCOM), and Sri Lanka’s Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) to formalize cooperation frameworks.
Strategic initiatives, cross-border participation in tech summits
Sri Lanka wanted to boost cooperation by having Bangladeshi stakeholders join “Disrupt Asia 2025,” which is Colombo’s main ICT event for networking and drawing investment.
The High Commissioner said the summit would allow Bangladeshi firms to learn about Sri Lanka’s flourishing tech sector and growth in IT exports over the past years.
In return, BACCO extended an invitation for Sri Lankan participation in the BACCO Summit 2025 in Dhaka this June. These reciprocal engagements aim to foster innovation, market access, and policy alignment.
The planned virtual session between industry bodies will further outline joint initiatives, including skills training and export promotion strategies.
