S&W acquires Haines Watts Scotland in UK expansion

TENNESSEE, UNITED STATES, and WILTSHIRE, ENGLAND — The professional services group S&W has expanded into Scotland through the acquisition of Haines Watts Scotland, marking its fifth strategic acquisition since launching earlier this year.
This move establishes S&W’s presence in key Scottish markets, including Edinburgh, Kirkcaldy, and Stirling, and introduces the firm’s brand to a new region.
S&W growth strategy and services
S&W, an accounting and advisory firm in the United Kingdom, has a long history of growth since 1881, and its recent rapid expansion has motivated the firm to serve clients with complex requirements by offering a full range of services, including tax and financial advisory services.
To this mass-firm experience is added Haines Watts, which has established a unique niche by directing its strong entrepreneurial culture towards personalized service for aspirational owner-managed businesses, with a belief in close client relationships that directly influence their performance.
S&W expands UK footprint via Scotland deal
The acquisition of Haines Watts Scotland by S&W is a move to further expand the firm’s UK presence. The move is a continuation of the recent expansion the firm has had to the north, including the Haines Watts businesses in Leeds, Manchester, and Newcastle that the firm acquired last year.
The acquisition of Scotland is a strong indicator of S&W’s aggressive growth model, which primarily uses strategic acquisitions to enter new and significant markets.
“This move reflects our continued commitment to growth, with strong backing from Apax Funds, and reinforces our ambition to be the go-to professional services firm for dynamic businesses and private clients with complex needs,” said Andrew Wilkes, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at S&W.
Donna Bulmer, Executive Team member at S&W, notes that “This acquisition helps drive our continued expansion across the UK and creates a great opportunity for us to provide even more clients with a broad range of services.”
S&W strengthens Scottish advisory team
The integration of Haines Watts Scotland directly enhances S&W’s operational capacity and service depth. The acquisition brings 39 experienced professionals, including Partner Graeme Miller, into the S&W fold. This well-regarded team is equipped to deliver a full suite of accountancy and advisory services, significantly boosting S&W’s local capabilities from day one.
The newly acquired group offers services to owner-managed enterprises and individuals, with particular expertise in audit and business outsourcing, tax advisory, and compliance.
“With the backing of a fast-growing group and access to an extensive depth of services, we can offer greater strategic support to businesses and private clients with complex needs across Scotland,” explained Graeme Miller, Managing Partner at Haines Watts.
“Our focus remains on strong local relationships, now enhanced by the scale and resources of S&W, which positions us perfectly for ambitious growth.”
This local experience and national size are strategically placed to spearhead aggressive development of the merged company in the Scottish market.
